Hi there,
This is my first writing “out in the wild”. I do not have a big goal with the writing, my goal is to potentially help some colleagues by vocation that may have struggled with some similar hurdles during implementation of Business Central.
This time I would like to share what I have “developed” for faster entry of prices using the new pricing experience in Business Central. Motivation comes from having feedback from my colleagues that the current state of this functionality is not the most user friendly one.
The brief description of the functionality is on the Microsoft Docs:
Use new sales pricing experience – Dynamics 365 Release Plan | Microsoft Learn
So what is the problem with the new pricing experience? The problem is that a user wants to enter a price for a single item or a resource and in order to do so he may need to take quite a few actions in order to achieve a goal that should be as simple as possible:
The steps for this simple task are at minimum:
- In an item list select an action group “Prices & Discout” – 1 click
- Select an action “Sales Prices” – 1 click

- For a new item the prices do not exist. Therefore we have to open the sales price list. action “Sales Price Lists” – 1 click

- Open the price list by clicking on the “Code ” – 1 click

- In order to enter a price the price can be entered directly but it seems users tend to scroll down to the end of the list there needing 1 scrolling action

In total 5 actions were needed. So what can we do about it? The idea can be created on the Ideas (dynamics.com) and if it picks up enough votes Microsoft might start working on the Usability. I use this possibility quite often. This time I have created a blog post instead. 🙂 I think that at some point of time Microsoft will definitely take action. The only question is when. Until that happens, I have linked a small extension that somewhat helps with the entry.

I have also built an action that allows to delete selected prices for an item.

If you like it that’s great. If you don’t or you have a better approach, please drop a comment so that we can improve it together.
